NuMobile – Bridging the Digital Divide, Empowering Employees, and Improving Workforce Communication

21 October 2025 · ANUVA Investments

For many South Africans, visiting an MTN or Vodacom branch is an exciting experience – the prospect of a new smartphone and package presents endless possibilities and exciting new features. But for almost 70% of South Africans, this excitement quickly turns into disappointment, as too often, they are turned away because of poor credit.

A working smartphone is no longer a privilege but a necessity – without which you are excluded from society and the broader economy. For many South Africans, trying to get a smartphone is a traumatising cycle of debt and rejection that ultimately leads to costly short-term loans, poor-quality hardware and expensive pay-as-you-go deals (which often cost up to 150% more than contract prices).

NuMobile’s mission, for the past 17 years, has been solving this challenge for thousands of hardworking South Africans. By partnering with established businesses to provide employees with a quality smartphone and an affordable month-to-month contract, NuMobile utilises payroll deductions to automatically approve employees – that means no credit checks or a fear of rejection. Employees are empowered with appropriate choices that will save them money. NuMobile caters to their entire household by also offering bundled home internet, laptops and tablets, a second phone, and cases and screen covers to ensure device longevity.

NuMobile has built-in safeguards to keep things fair and affordable. Employees must have been with their employer for at least six months, and repayments are capped at 10% of take-home pay — so no one is stretched beyond their means. And if a phone breaks, NuMobile steps in to fix it, with the repair cost spread out over the remainder of the contract.

But why should employers care? At first glance, many dismiss this as “not my problem” or something outside their core focus. The truth is, employee benefits and communication are becoming critical. Large employers can’t afford to ignore their role in empowering staff any longer. The days of long queues at HR or waiting to use a shared terminal are over. With NuMobile, employees are digitally connected, easy to reach, and always in the loop.

Anuva Investments is proud to be backing NuMobile’s push to digitally empower South Africa’s workforce.
